Bear in mind that the rooms are traditional, therefore not en-suite. We needed a drink and the loo. Eventually we heard him come to a back door and announce that we were going to do something. What seemed like a lifetime of embarrassing to-ing and fro-ing of words we eventually figured out that he was taking us sailing…on the sea… because it would be a good experience. We climbed into his knackered old car so he could drive us the 200 metres to the marina, donned a lifejacket and climbed on his mates’ little sailing boat. The lady from the café was brought along, I think it’s fair to say “brought along” as I am unsure that she had much choice as she had finished work and I think she was asked to join us to help translate for the feckless English he had staying. We were out for about an hour and a half sailing through the little islands around the Naoshima coast.
